How to Mask Your Full Body

How to Mask Your Full Body

Whether you've got dull skin, dry skin, acne-prone skin, or aging skin, everyone can benefit from full body masking. It can even be a great self-care moment to unwind from a chaotic day. Just like putting a face mask on makes you instantly feel more zen, a body mask can make you feel calmer while improving the appearance of your skin.

If you're interested in trying a head-to-toe treatment for complete relaxation and the skincare benefits that accompany it, here's how to do it.

Set the Scene

A masking session would not be complete without a calming atmosphere to really help you unwind. Turn on some soothing music, light a scented candle, and strip naked. Make sure you also have a towel nearby to lie on once you've applied all your masks. It'll save your furniture from getting dirty!

The best beauty experiences begin with a relaxing atmosphere where you can truly unwind and let go. Body masking just wouldn't be the same without a zen-like setting.

Now let's get to masking every part of your body.

The Hair

You don't just need skincare products to do masking. You can also try hair masking, too, to hydrate and nourish your scalp and strands. Use your favorite hair mask or a nourishing natural oil like olive or coconut -- take your pick. Massage it in, comb it through to your ends, and then twist your hair into a bun to prevent it sliding down your neck and back. The next day, you'll have super soft hair and a mega strong scalp for healthy hair growth.

The Face

Most people use face masks to treat different skin issues. Whether you're looking for an exfoliating mask to brighten skin or a face mask with firming effects to restore youthfulness, there's a face mask out there for every skin concern. After cleansing your skin, apply a thin layer of your chosen mask to your face and neck. You can also extend the formula to the decolletage, which is an often neglected area of the body.

The Lips

To finalize the face masking part of the ceremony, apply your favorite lip mask to a clean, dry pout. We recommend choosing one that plumps and hydrates. Make sure it contains hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin.

The Feet

Your feet do a lot of work. Show them some love by slathering them in a nourishing, ultra moisturizing foot mask. Start with a foot soak, and then finish with your foot mask to give your tootsies the TLC they deserve. For some added affection, add in an exfoliation step to buff away dead skin and smooth out dry patches.

The Chest

This most forgotten body area deserves some love. Apply a sheet mask or gel mask formulated with firming, hydrating ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, acai, or retinol. The area will be left looking fresher and more youthful than ever.

The Back

--and that includes both the butt and the back.

Zits on the butt are a common issue. Especially since the pandemic happened, more of us are dealing with butt breakouts as a result of sitting for too long. The good news is, you don't have to live with it forever. Choose a body mask formulated with acne-fighting ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to treat and prevent butt blemishes. You could also try a charcoal mask, which soaks up the excess oil on your skin, preventing the pores of becoming clogged and ultimately the formation of butt breakouts.

It turns out, breakouts on the back are even more common. It's called bacne. Bacne can happen due to hormonal fluctuations, genetics, or poor skincare habits -- like not washing after a sweaty workout session. Dig out a body mask that is either clay-related, foams up, or exfoliates -- these are the best for tackling body acne.

Finish with a Moisturizer

It's always best to leave face masks on for a shorter time than body masks, as the skin on your face is more delicate than the skin on your body. For the face, we recommend leaving the mask on for 10-15 minutes, then rinsing it off with lukewarm water. For the body, leave it on for approximately 20-30 minutes before rinsing.

After patting dry your skin, apply a lightweight face serum or cream to the face and a nourishing lotion to the whole body. Leave it to fully absorb before getting dressed.
